Let’s dive into this beautiful duplex apartment in Kolkata, where minimalist furniture works in perfection to create a serene and calm environment.

At the dawn of this project, the first thing that Abin Chaudhuri, the interior designer responsible for designing this home for a family of five in New Alipur, Kolkata, the first thing he decided to do was to draw a line in order to distinguish indoors from outdoors, since he wanted to ensure a way to ensure ample lights and ventilation, while guaranteeing the privacy of the family that would be living there.
The solution was to make the home blend in with the landscape, making it seem like the interiors were invisible from the outside, which is a challenge that Chaudhuri accepted, and that he realized would only be possible to achieve by using plenty of minimalist furniture.
“The essence of our design philosophy was to create a retreat from the urban clamour, allowing residents to enjoy tranquillity while remaining connected to the surrounding environment. The resulting abode stands as a peaceful haven, blending serenity with the vibrancy of urban living.”

The living room is a great example of how Chaudhuri’s use of minimalist furniture and neutral tones can be extremely effective in making the home’s interiors blend in with the outdoor section of the home, so full of nature and relaxing earthy tones, which are made easy to see through the windows.
The minimalist furniture in this living room is absolutely breathtaking, and never falls short of surprising whoever lays their eyes upon it, while remaining as functional and practical, with pieces such as the cream sofa and softly grey center table that make the room feel like an inspiring modern art piece.
The use of contrasting colors, like the black-colored furniture and decor, along with the white suspension lamp, makes for a great creation of contrast, which, along with the usage of a golden console table and a brightly colored painting, all make this room feel like a truly unique work of art disguised as a simple living room.

The guest bedroom is also an ode to tranquility, which makes the best use of minimalist furniture as it possibly can, choosing to follow through using neutral tones, such as white, grey, and brown, pairing these light colors with soft and smooth furniture and decor, worthy of a bedroom such as this one, where comfort and rest is the priority.
Although prioritizing comfort above all else, Chaudhuri feels the need to avoid minimizing the interiors in his quest to make the indoor and outdoor sections of this home blend in through the usage of minimalist furniture and other elements; he actually wanted to make more room for the things that he felt mattered the most, such as the sculptures, artworks and rugs.
“The deliberate use of highlights and shadows in the design was a crucial aspect of our vision. By harnessing the interaction between the sunlight and the sandstone facade, we created a dynamic experience that evolves with the passage of time and changing seasons.”

As for the dining room, an asymmetrical design style was chosen to create a dynamic ambience, while maintaining the minimalist furniture as a centerpiece of this work, where the simple, yet endearing furniture, such as the chairs, console table, and dining table, manage to remain functional and elegant, leaving an everlasting mark on the room, although leaving plenty of room for the odd artworks and pieces of decor to take their place in the spotlight as well.
While remaining a relaxing and comfortable place where this family can sit down and have a nice, warm meal, Chaudhuri wanted to make sure the influences that have made this home into what it is remained in this room as well, in order to make everything feel consistent and coherent, which he did with his brilliant choices when it came to minimalist furniture, as well as the unique choices in decor.
And with that, our overview of this beautiful home in Kolkata, India, where minimalist furniture is used to open a bridge between the home’s indoor and outdoor spaces, making the home blend in beautifully with its surroundings, bringing out a sense of natural relaxation and comfort.
