The minimalist style is trending! Take a look at how this design style was masterfully used to bring new life to this Biscayne Bay home.

Figuring out that the type of homes Jon Oringer and his wife Talia saw in Miami Beach weren’t fit for their family’s lifestyle and preferences, since most of the South Florida homes they were seeing had a Miami Vice vibe, which was antithetical to what the couple had envisioned.
Their search ended up leading to a property that overlooks Florida‘s Biscayne Bay, with a breathtaking view, which made the extensive work needed to renovate the home worthwhile.
The couple asked interior designer Kelly Behun, whom they had already previously worked with, to help them reach their envisioned look for this home, using her masterful use of the minimalist style, paired with exquisite sophistication.
“We knew Kelly would conjure up something unmistakably ours: curated, artistic, unique, comfortable, and livable.”

In the living room, Behun let her creativity run loose, mixing in various different elements of the minimalist style she is known for, namely the usage of neutral tones, functional furniture, and a preference for smooth lines and dynamic shapes and sizes.
A sense of sophisticated comfort is the main feeling that Behun wanted for this home, as it was her client’s main wish; a home where his family can live comfortably, in a relaxing and soothing way, while feeling like they are simultaneously in somewhere that is elegant and that meets their refined tastes.
This living room achieves this desired feel due to its splendid combination of different shapes in the furniture, such as the three complementary coffee tables, the soft-shaped armchairs and sofa, the luxurious floor lamp, and the usage of natural decor, such as the vase with flowers, which are all common elements for the minimalist style Behun is using.

The kitchen and dining room follow the same minimalist style we saw in the living room, pairing neutral tones occasionally with brighter, more colorful ones, like we can see with the lamps in the living room.
The kitchen is very simple and functional, choosing not to invest in a lot of decor, remaining only has a functional, yet relaxing space for the client’s to make their meals, unike the dining room, that while remaing as a very functional space, it is dedicated much more to being a comfortable, dynamic and elegant room, going much more beyond a simple dining room.
The minimalist style is second nature to an interior designer such as Behun, as her natural ability to combine various types of furniture, colors, and pieces of decor.

The main bedroom is mainly characterized by its splendid view of the second floor’s atrium’s enormous leaves, which help bring out the zen feeling that has been surrounding the entire home so far.
The minimalist style is being used here, albeit in a slightly different fashion as before, since Behun focused a bit more on using a smooth patterned rug, with clear lines and colors that perfectly complemented the beige, brown, and white color palette for this main bedroom.
The screening room, on the other hand, features the minimalist style in a much more unique way, focusing on a neutral color palette with different tones from the ones we have seen so far, choosing to incorporate light greens as we see in the pillows and light oranges, which we can find in the wall lamps.
Both these rooms show different ways of how to use the minimalist style to make a room’s ambience feel more in touch with what its supposed to: for example, the bedroom feels much more relaxing than the screening room (although they both feel relaxing), because the screening room is much more focused on creating a good ambience to watch movies in, while the bedroom has the main priority of being comfortable and relaxing.

Lastly, we’ll be taking a short look into the library, where Behun used mostly earthy tones, namely in the furniture and decor, keeping the minimalist style philosophy on par with the rest of the home, opting for a more functional approach to this room.
The decorative elements are quite unique, bringing to this room an almost mystique feel to it, which feels the educated ambience required for a library such as this one, made to fit the client’s unique preferences and tastes.
And with that, we managed to get a good idea of how Kelly Behun used the minimalist style to make this Biscayne Bay home, making it stand out from the rest, and taking advantage of the home’s beautiful landscape and scenery, turning it into a true work of art.
